Catch Me If You Drone
The two men in the image hail from opposite parts of the planet but share the same feather.
One is Frank Abagnale who was a a con man, check forger, and impostor. The movie on him featuring Leonardo Di Caprio was released in 2002, presently has an IMDB rating of 8.9/10.
Here is our South Indian adaptation- obviously brown skin, would make a great Kannada textbook poster boy, hails from a village, has farmer parents, and a crazy amount of inspiring stories. He claims to be an expert at drones, and 'sorry adhunella disclose madak aagalla' fields of study. He says the secret to his success is - "I have no girlfriend". If a movie would be made on him, he would probably take up his own role, have a lot of VFX of course, and the movie would end up on Youtube.
Drone Prathap makes huge claims about his achievements, claims to have carried 360 Kgs of drone equipment to Japan, made 600 drones, taken his drone at the speed of light to deliver anti-venom, met Johnny Depp, and calls the Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru a bus stand in-front of France Airport. Has traveled almost all the time and has exhausted 4 (corrected to 2) passports and has trained young graduates at all elite universities in the USA.
(A lot more about him can be read at the articles linked below, the purpose of this blog is different)
I'd personally say that he has severely exposed how we assume a person is genuine, the media's fact check policy, and our shitting on him is justified to an extent. Here are my pointers:
DronePrathap here, in my opinion, wanted to look like the extreme opposite of Nepotism (which if genuine must be respected) and was given a kickstart after trapping Jaggesh. Due to his fancy fake stories, he has suppressed the right talent to be showcased in Karnataka. We are all familiar with how hard it is to wait for those precious 5 seconds of fame to show the world that we are relevant and deserve attention.
Drone Prathap must have snatched away the employment opportunities by the standards he would have set, for eg. his maneuver during the Karnataka floods must have taken away the chance from a genuine more skilled drone expert from earning his bread and serving the State and could have probably saved even more lives.
News reports show that most of his claims are completely baseless, let alone exaggerated. What would happen to his parents and their mental health if it is proven that his son is an overexaggerated storyteller and has made a lot of money in the process?
What about Prathap MN? He probably needs to step up to the level he has set himself since he is no longer living in the bubble of his intellect. What about the rest of the years of his life, when he grows older and guilt starts to feed him from the inside like a spider trying to crawl out of a cave.
How would he feel when he is reminded of his lectures and dialogues, looks at the fake certificates and medals hanging over his wall. When he looks at troll pages on social media or face trolls on the street?
What does he do when he realizes his whole life was a lie?
Does he need help to get out of this clusterfuck while we are busy laughing at him?
I hope the end of this blog starts a new conversation and people reading this use the best of their facilities, create a petition or give a one time try to let him get out of this safely.
